28 nations from around the world presented resolutions on what they wanted the Colorado Model United Nations to support. Each nation brought a team of 5-7 delegates (aka: middle school students) to the event who had been working to prepare not only their own resolution but also their understanding of others' resolutions since November. In all, 166 students engaged in meaningful debate about real world issues such as women's health in Nepal, HIV/AIDS Education and Prevention in Malawi, and Controlling the Zika Virus in Brazil.

In a 2-day culminating event, the students split into 5 groups or Council Sessions on day 1. Only 8 resolutions made it to day 2 and were presented to the entire General Assembly. Who makes it to General Assembly is based on several data points including quality of writing, quality of presentation, participation of delegates, and number of votes. You can see more details on this website under Other Programs.

A group of Steamboat Springs High School students preside of the debates as Ambassadors. They run the show with poise and confidence. The entire event is a wonderful way for students to practice public speaking, learn about current events in the world, grow their leadership, and enjoy applying what they've been studying to a live role play situation that feels very real.
